Your body heals in four phases.
Your digestive system is permanently changed after surgery — and that's your greatest tool. BariBowl's menus are structured around four phases of healing so you're never guessing what your body is ready for.
Phase timelines below are general guidelines. Always follow your surgical team's specific protocol.
Clear & Full Liquids
Your pouch is freshly healing and the priority is hydration and pain-free recovery. Nothing solid. Nothing thick. Sip slowly, constantly.
What you can have
- Clear broths (chicken, beef, vegetable)
- Protein-enhanced water and electrolyte drinks
- Diluted fruit juice (no pulp, no citrus)
- Plain gelatin (sugar-free)
- Popsicles (sugar-free, no fruit chunks)
Boxes include pre-portioned bone broth packets, bariatric protein drink bases, and our proprietary gelatin kits with added collagen. We don't send perishable solids during Phase 1 — your box focuses on hydration infrastructure.

Pureed Foods
The pouch is healing but still vulnerable. Food needs the consistency of smooth applesauce or hummus — no chunks, seeds, or skins. The goal is to reintroduce nutrients through real food while keeping textures baby-soft.
What you can have
- Pureed lean protein (chicken, fish, eggs — smooth blended)
- Smooth Greek yogurt (low-sugar)
- Pureed legumes and lentils
- Pureed vegetables (no seeds or skins)
- Low-fat cottage cheese (blended smooth)
Kits come with pre-portioned protein bases and spice packets ready to blend. Sample options: Lemon Herb Whitefish Puree, Smoked Paprika Chicken Blend, and Roasted Red Pepper Lentil Velvet.

Soft Foods
Welcome back to something resembling a meal. Soft foods can be fork-tender, flaky, or moist — but still no raw crunchy textures. This is where most patients regain confidence in cooking, and where BariBowl really shines.
What you can have
- Soft-cooked fish and shrimp
- Ground turkey or chicken (moist, not dry)
- Soft-scrambled eggs
- Canned or cooked legumes
- Well-cooked non-fibrous vegetables
- Soft tofu
- Low-fat ricotta and cottage cheese
Phase 3 is our largest menu tier — 20+ weekly options including Teriyaki Salmon Flakes with soft edamame, Turkey Ricotta Meatballs in marinara, Mediterranean Egg White Scramble, and Chipotle Black Bean Mash Bowls. All under 15 minutes from ingredient to table.

Modified Regular Diet
This is your forever way of eating — not a temporary diet. Phase 4 is about maintaining the habits that protect your metabolic health long-term. Most textures are reintroduced (with exceptions), but portions and priorities stay bariatric-focused permanently.
What you can have
- Most whole foods (introduced one at a time)
- Lean proteins: chicken, fish, turkey, eggs, legumes
- High-fiber vegetables and low-GI fruits
- Whole grains in small quantities (if tolerated)
- Healthy fats: avocado, nuts in moderation, olive oil
What to still avoid
- High-sugar foods (dumping syndrome risk)
- Carbonated beverages (stretches the pouch)
- Drinking with meals (dilutes enzymes)
- Bread, pasta, and rice as primary foods
- Fried and high-fat foods
Phase 4 is the BariBowl long game. Menus rotate weekly with seasonal, nutrient-dense meals built to the 2026 bariatric standard: fiber-forward, protein-adequate, metabolically stable. GLP-1 compatible options are flagged for patients on hybrid treatment protocols.
